For the personal essay portion of the application, make sure you write about something that really makes you stand out. Remember that there are thousands of applications pouring in, so write about something that is going to make them remember your name. Most importantly (for any college) VISIT the school. It is the best way to see the school, talk to current students and admissions counselors, etc. Marist's tour takes you to nearly every part of the campus, including the freshmen dorms to see an actual freshman room!

I filled out the common application in order to get into Marist. I was very involved in high school and I was sure to put my extra curricular activities and show off my involvement in my resume. If you are looking to come to Marist, definitely visit the campus and meet with someone from admissions because they are extremly helpful, and they gave me all of my options and helped me make my decision.

I had mediocreJan 22 2010Criminal
I had mediocre SAT scores and managed to get in, although the word is they've upped their standards in recent years (although it doesn't really show in the student body). Honestly, it takes more work to get into the college than it takes to get decent grades once you get here; so if you're hell bent on going to Marist just work hard in high school, get the solid grades and extracurriculars and then get ready for a nice 4 year cruise (depending upon your area of study obviously).

I would recommend getting involved with as manyJan 21 2010Accounting
I would recommend getting involved with as many activities at your high school that you can fit into your schedule without going insane. Definitely participate in a lot of community service because that's really important.

When I first decided that I wanted to applyJan 20 2010Education
When I first decided that I wanted to apply to Marist, I went on the school's website to gain a better sense of what type of people would flourish in that enviornment. I also wanted to see what credentials the admissions office were looking for. After doing a little research, I filled out the application with crossed fingers.
If anyone would like to get into Marist College someday, I would highly reccomend that during high school and over summer breaks these individuals participate in volunteer activities and community service. Marist looks for well rounded students, not just brilliant minds. They want to make sure that this person will be a benefit to the campus as well. Do not get me wrong, grades and SAT scores are also considered highly. But try to do your part to make sure you stand out from your peers.
Good Luck!
